Decorated Iraq War Army Veteran Beaten by Las Vegas Police at Airport

by LV on March 10, 2010

An Iraqi War veteran says Metro officers beat him at mccarran International Airport. Action News has video of the alleged beating two months ago. National guard Sergeant Mark England says the officers beat him with a nightstick and shot him with a taser after an argument with TSA agents at the airport. The Metro officers involved are still working and Metro says based on the video Action News showed them they believe the officer didn’t do anything wrong. Status of Case as of 13 SEP 2007 Both LVMPD Officers are still working active , armed duty at the airport, neither faced direct criminal, civil or administrative action. The third Metro Officer laughing in the second video is listed as a witness since he did not get himself involved. Sadly it’s legal to have a cruel line of mentality. Neither Metro nor SGT England have successfully been able to bring a lawsuit against the other. *LVMPD found itself “exonerated” *The Clark County Citizen’s Review board found in favour of Metro. *Attorney Cal Potter is representing Sgt. Mark England in the lawsuit against Metro The LVMPD Officer named as the cause are Jennings and Clark who beat and tased the Sgt. respectively. *The District Attorney’s Office says that LVMPD does not have enough evidence to pursue charges of violation of airport rules (more specifically: interference with security procedures) and resisting arrest. *OCT 13 Exclusive information obtained - Cal Potter is no longer the attorney for Mark England

No, we don’t. But, he tried to smuggle some contraband and was denied.
Then he went back to….., he should have just continued on his trip.
That was an International Airport, there are different rules and most people are not use to it. You don’t need “probable cause” to search someone on an International flight, etc.
He missed his flight, because he wanted to argue.

@DD826 Another video said that he missed his airplane ride…complained to the manager…then the conflict broke out…not sure what the truth is…..for sure though.

This is a clear example of a bias new report not serving the public well, and not understanding what their Freedom of the press is really there for..
Something we see, all too often these days!

Hey, it all started with this traveler trying to smuggle contraband onto the plane and it is clear he was upset, that he wasn’t able to get away with it.
A really good officer would have known how to handle this person.
Bottom line, travelers have to cooperate with the authorities. If not, things get bad.
If you have a problem, ALWAYS ask to talk to their supervisor!

@DD826 In Reno…he was probably drunk or hung over….too. Cops in Reno can be hard though…..they have to be..it’s not an easy area.

I didn’t know, there is a “medal” of commendation and didn’t see a medal in the video?
I have two Command Commendations, put no “medals” with them.
It is more a Letter of Commendation.

It is hard to tell from this video, that the “Use of Force” was abusive. He seems like a nice guy in the video, but he went back looking to argue or more.
He also “bladed” off with the officer, before going to the back area. Sorry, but if he had been cooperative from the begining, there would have been no problem! He is a big guy and if he was not responding to officer commands, then hard technigues was necessary.
A good officer could have talked the situation down, thou. Call the SUPT!

@ipooponcrackers
Everyone that serves is NOT a “hero”=somebody who commits an act of remarkable bravery.
Serving your country is does NOT necessarily make someone a “hero”.

Anonymous 03.10.10 at 6:26 am

@lfd0311
The state run media calls EVERBODY a “hero” these days.
They seem to think, they need to sensationalize everything, to get people to listen to them.

@memama2 You could be right…it’s hard to know..what really happened. However, I think they would have had charges, if he had a weapon. It does look excessive.

..and his “rib cage and minor nuggie” …is stopping him from working? …hmmm me smells some law suits comin from Mr. man ..(and by the way Security Officers ARE NOT TREATED WITH RESPECT they deserve) …… and if this industry World Wide was moved to a Life’s = Premium Staus WELL PAID Job Like EL AL? this guy or anyone else who did not listen or stop what they were told to STOP? Would be in prison in Israel right now! EL AL does not ask “twice” EVER.

Anonymous 03.10.10 at 6:26 am

@CalifSunshine2008 = I know TSA agents and there is no way that this guy got a BEAT DOWN …unless he deserved it! …..TSA is an honorable group who asked or told this guy TO DO SOMETHING = NOW! ….with refusal comes consequences and that sir is what happened TO YOU ……..refusing to listen or comply with TSA is gonna cost ya! THEY should be given even further authority to be like EL AL and carry weapons and be just like Police (shoulda complied little buddy)

Get a good lawyer! I’d take them to the cleaners.

I hope those cops get shot to death. I pray to god they do.

I was in the Army for 4 years, just got back from 4 years in Iraq as a civilian contractor, and did 10 years with LVMPD, 3 as a defensive tactics instructor. Without knowing what was said, threats, resistance, or commands, the video looks pretty damning to the officers. One rule, if you use force, you make an arrest, period.

Anonymous 03.10.10 at 6:26 am

ipooponcrackers oh, and I’ve been in the presence of real live hero’s. watched true heroism with my own eyes. and though I appreciate what is obviously genuine support on your part, forgive me if I don’t see a national gaurd clerk or other type of rear echelon job as being a hero

Anonymous 03.10.10 at 6:26 am

@ippooponcrackers uh, yeah, thanks. did two tours in iraq, got hit with shrapnel in my fucking FACE and had over 82 puncture wounds in my face, neck, arms, legs and upper body. YOUR welcome

Anonymous 03.10.10 at 6:26 am

Anonymous 03.10.10 at 6:26 am
