Source: (Excerpt Below) www.huffingtonpost.com It’s hard to find a home bought before 2009 that isn’t underwater and very few landlords, when running credit checks, look for foreclosures or short-sales on a tenant’s record. Otherwise, a manager couldn’t fill a building. Nevada has a greater concentration of economic misery than any other state. The state’s unemployment rate, which in June edged up to 14.2 percent, has risen faster during the past year than it has anywhere else, and nearly six percent of all homes across the state’s desert landscape received a foreclosure filing in the first six months of the year. While the concentration of misery may be greater in Nevada, it was caused by the same unchecked housing bubble and unregulated financial gambling that brought pain to the rest of the country. If present trends go unchecked, Nevada is America’s future. The jobless rate would likely be much higher, say residents, if Nevada were not such a transient state. When folks lose their jobs and their homes, they often pack up and move in with relatives…”Nevada was pretty much a growth economy for most of the past two decades,” says Steven Horsford, the Nevada State Senate’s Minority Leader, a Democrat who represents North Las Vegas. “When the financial crisis hit, it disproportionately affected Las Vegas because of our growth rate.” Horsford says the local economy is struggling not because fewer tourists are coming to Vegas, but because the people who do come are …

I live in Vegas (I’ve been here for years). The numbers are true and the foreclosures are very real. Unemployment is insane. My student loans are increasing dramatically. But, ironically, there is so much construction going on. Houses are being built like crazy, schools keep popping up, and for some reason Reid gave us a shooting range *cough* wants NRA support *cough*. We’re not handling our money right. I love living here, but I always imagine the day I’ll have to head out to Cali or Arizona.

The upside to vegas collapse is that the escorts will let u bang them for 50% less then normal rate. I fucked 2 for the price of 1 in Vegas in one night. Plus they also do kinds of kinky acts if u ask them coz of the need for money. so i got one to drink my piss and other to eat my shiit after i smeared it on her face.

The Indian casinos popping up all around the country are killing Vegas. Besides, all the gamblers have gone bankrupt. Their credit scores are zero.

@sgtsysop “Vegas will just turn into a giant whore-house.”
Probably not. My guess is that there won’t be enough high-end customers to support all of the Strip’s luxury hotels, so some of those hotels will fail and be sold for pennies on the dollar. The new owners will revert to the original Las Vegas business model of free or cheap rooms, food, drinks, and entertainment, then make it up in the casino. That business model built Las Vegas, so It can also save Las Vegas.

@7MMXX You can vacation in Las Vegas for less than any other destination on earth. You can stay at world famous hotels for $25/night and get 2for1 meals at elegant restaurants & buffets for under $5/person. You can even take a city bus from the airport directly to a lot of resort hotels. You need to get away from the Strip, get your hands on some premium coupon books, and do your homework. Las Vegas is a terrific destination for any budget.

The only houses that are being sold are the smaller cheaper ones that the people that are walking away from their big mortgages are buying
Anonymous 07.31.10 at 11:12 am
In a way this could be good news maybe if powerful lobbies force the bankers to invest in other industries besides the stock market we could see some financial reform.

If you’re going to Las Vegas for the first time, expect to be let down
It’s a great place to be if you’re a millionaire, if you’re not, it sucks
